Dividend Scale

Dividend Scale

How we calculate dividends

Phoenix Life Insurance Company is changing the policy dividend scale for all “closed block” participating policies (purchased before our June 2001 demutualization) effective January 1, 2017. The dividend scale for the small number of participating policies in the “open block” (purchased after demutualization) also will change for 2017.

Each year, Phoenix must decide whether to maintain or change the dividend scales for calculating dividend payments after considering several factors, including historical performance and future expectations. These calculations incorporate several components including investment results and mortality (claims)

The impact of the dividend scale change on a specific policy will vary based on a number of factors, including product type, age at issue, length of time the policy has been in force, gender, and health when the policy was issued. Policy loan balances and policy loan interest rates also have an effect. While most policyholders will see a decrease in their dividend payments in 2017, some will see an increase.
